How to encourage your child to love reading

Here is a great article about how to get your child to love reading from Jen Robinson's book page:

I thought her second point was especially interesting- read the books that your children are reading, even after they read on their own. It sounds like an effective way to encourage your children to read and a lovely way to stay close to them.

  1. Thanks so much for linking to my article, Alicia! I have really seen that "read the books your children read" idea work well in practice. And it's not like there's a downside, because the books are wonderful. Anyway, thanks!!

  2. Jen,
Thanks again for the great article.
Another thing that I do to develop my son’s imagination and vocabulary is make up stories with him.
We take turns telling stories, and they are usually about him and incorporate ideas from books we’ve read and all the things he loves (lighthouses, candy, etc.).

(I got this idea from his preschool teacher- she likes to make up stories about the children in her class.)
